WHAT IS DNA TESTING?

what is dna testing

Each of us is different from everyone else alive today or who has ever lived before. This uniqueness comes from the ‘genetic code’ embedded in each of our cells and which is as individual to us as our fingerprints.

This code is created from DNA, or Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid as it’s more formally called. This is a complex chemical made up of two microscopic spirals of proteins that twist around each other in a shape that’s known as a double helix. These proteins are so important to all living things that they are often called the ‘building blocks of life’. But though no one else has exactly the same sequence of proteins in their DNA as us, we do pass on parts of our own code to our children, just as our parents passed on part of their DNA code to us.

This means there’s always a strong and ever-present inherited connection between offspring and their mothers and fathers. It’s this connection that allows us to doing a simple DNA paternity test that compares the DNA sample of a child with that of an adult and determine if they are related. You can learn more about how to take a DNA test by clicking here. You can also check on the parentage of an unborn child by arranging a Prenatal DNA Test that analyses the mother’s blood, so there’s no possible risk or discomfort to the unborn child.

Whether it’s a DNA Paternity Test or a prenatal DNA test, our tests are highly accurate (99.999% and above) so you can be absolutely sure that the result is correct. This level of accuracy is one of the reasons why they can be used for legal purposes that help determine important decisions, such as the custody of a child. That level of accuracy is also essential if you want to find out if you, or someone in your family, is more or less likely to suffer from an illness or disease by having a genetic predisposition test to check for a range of inherited diseases and conditions. Besides these serious matters, our ancestry DNA test can also reveal the incredible journey your own DNA has been on, over tens of thousands of years, as it has traveled through time and places and countless generations. Make your family search with Atlas DNA.

By bringing all this knowledge together in wall charts and maps that graphically illustrate who your ancient ancestors were and where they came from, we can create a truly exciting and unusual gift for you or for anyone in your family.

Atlas DNA analysis and DNA testings are carried out at a laboratory accredited by the AABB .
Our arrangements are managed by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC)
We lead the integration of health and well-being into wider Government institutions, working with other sectors like Department of Health .
